There are six domains that we will focus on in the coaching process:

01.

Stacking the Big Blocks

It’s easy to get caught-up in small details, but if the foundations aren’t in place none of the little things will matter. We’ll begin by looking at the major factors that affect your quality of life: daily activity, typical meal composition, medical history, and the environment where you spend most of your time.

02.

Identify & Discover Values

Understanding why you want to achieve a certain goal is just as important as the goal itself. We’ll take a deep dive into what you want to be able to do with your body throughout your life, appreciate the many things it already does for you, and determine the values that should drive your training and nutrition decisions moving forward.

03.

Set Process-Oriented Goals

Standard, outcome-based goals such have their place, but greater success may come from process-focused goal-setting. Building off the previous steps we can identify goals that can increase your engagement with your fitness journey and keep you focused on continual improvement, rather than a single finish-line.

04.

Humane Training Plans

Exercise needs to be hard work in order to stimulate change, but that doesn’t mean it should be miserable. We’ll use simple, gimmick-free exercises in a plan that is thoughtfully constructed around your values and goals.

05.

Real Nutrition for Real People

Healthy eating is critical to overall wellness, but a lot of the diets that are promoted online can lead to unintended negative outcomes. Making small changes, one at a time, to how you eat and think about fueling your body will lead to sustainable improvements in your health while also leaving you free to actually enjoy food.

06.

Recovery & Reassessment

Physical and mental recovery are as important as exercise and nutrition, and in some ways even more important because this is where your gains are made.

What People Say

  • Like many people who actively go to the gym, I had high school (beginner) knowledge of my weightlifting and cardio training. Because we don’t actually learn how to correctly lift and customize workout plans for our individual needs, we end up overworking our bodies later on in life. That’s exactly what happened to me. Hugh has helped me and my husband rethink our concepts of fitness in a positive way, with kind, patient, and gentle perspective re-framing; “Your goals are important, so come to the gym with intention. What do you want from your workouts?”

For me, I had always equated more weight on the bar, or more intensity in the workout to weight loss. But after identifying a couple medical issues this year, Hugh has helped me tailor my workouts to help provide a balance between muscle building and preventing my medical issues from flaring. For my husband, his goals were different. Hugh has taught him how to effectively bench press to be able to maximize his press potential.

Hugh is a skilled, kind, knowledgeable, and patient coach! If you are wanting to have a positive relationship with your body, I highly recommend him!

  • I had the pleasure of training with Hugh, and I can confidently say that his expertise and guidance have taken my training to the next level. With his help, I was able to do the key lifts of kettlebell such as the snatch, and my overall strength and technique have improved significantly. Hugh’s teaching style is clear, concise, and effective, and I highly recommend his services to anyone looking to improve their strength and fitness.

  • Hugh is a great instructor, whether you’re a beginner or more experienced athlete. He’s very experienced and knowledgeable and able to tailor instruction to his client. He creates a judgment-free training environment aimed at helping the client to feel comfortable and able to have a say in their training while also being challenging. He’s very good at providing instruction regarding technique and focuses on solid and sustainable fundamentals. I found him to be friendly, professional, responsive and able to provide additional resources to help me in my fitness journey. And he continually checked in with me to make sure he was helping me continue to work toward my fitness goals. I would recommend him in a heartbeat!

  • Hugh is a fantastic instructor. He takes the time to listen and does a great job simplifying complex kettlebell movements. Hugh is an expert, but he knows how to break things down into easily understandable segments for beginners like me.
I would highly recommend Hugh if you want some great one-on-one kettle bell instruction!!
